OnlyFans To Ban Sexually Explicit Adult Content

@Aartfinesse

It was announced on the 19th of August that OnlyFans would be banning adult content from the 1st of October. This rumor has been spreading for the past year now that the creator of the well-known and unintentional adult content platform wanted to rectify the image of the site, even though CEO Tim Stokely has gained generational wealth from it, the site grew during the pandemic to over 130 million users worldwide as OnlyFans takes a 20% share of all payments.

"In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines," Statement by OnlyFans

Many questions have now arisen as to what this change in policies means, OnlyFans announced the change after the BBC approached the company for comment on the leaked documents contenting illegal content that had been circulated. It has also been speculated that the change in policies came after high-profile banking business partners pressured for a rebrand. Social media sites like Instagram also began deleting and removing their user's profiles who used their social media pages to advertise swipe up/link in bio preview posts on their stories and grids.

Whereas sites like Twitter allow the advertisement and circulation by pornographic content creators to be shared. Just this week I saw content creator and Z-list influencer Stephen Bear's OnlyFans content on my Twitter timeline, I won't go into details, just know I am scarred for life and that I had to rub holy water in my eyes.

Stephen is about to stand trial for the alleged secret filming of sexual activity with ex-girlfriend Love Island influencer Georgia Harrison, he circulated the secret recordings on his OnlyFans and received money and tips from viewers until he was arrested by U.K police after returning to London after trying to hide out in Dubai to avoid capture in January 2021, he was charged on 14 May 2021 with voyeurism, disclosing private, sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress, and harassment without violence.

There has also been a lot of interest in how easy it has been for children under the ages of 18 to start accounts and to share explicit nude content online. Documentaries such as "BBC Nudes 4 Sale" exposed how easy it was for underage users to get verified on the platform. On top of sketchy age verifications, OnlyFans has also had security problems in the past, this has been a cause of concern for the creators who use the site to supplement or to earn a full monthly income.

Dominique Papety "Temptation of Saint Hilarion" 1843-44

Celebrity users like Bhad Bhabie made over a million pounds by joining OnlyFans as soon as they turned 18, this caused controversy because of her age, and because of how certain men around the world had been waiting for the then child to become legal age. More bad publicity for the site, but still more money for them, they got richer.

Charles Dèsirè Hue "The Myth of King Candaules" 1864

OnlyFans has been glamourised by celebrities like Beyonce who encouraged women to get on that "demon time" and to get an OnlyFans account. The site has also become popularised and some say ruined by celebrities like Bella Thorne who made over 2 million pounds in her first day, and she didn't even go nude, just bikini pictures. This caused fans who purchased her content to request a refund as they felt scammed, causing OnlyFans to changed its payment/refund policies, many sex workers with smaller followings who post content on the site felt disadvantaged.

"The subscription-based site was originally created for users to post a wide range of varied content such as fitness tutorials and cooking tutorials, but it funnily enough, got taken over by porn. "

What platform will take over next? I am gambling that sister site Admire Me will gain an influx of new content creators, as those leaving OnlyFans, will need a new hosting site in order to keep the content pumping out and the money rolling in, to the standard they've become accustomed to. Either that or another new site will emerge and take over. It's times like these that I wish I knew how to code and create websites from scratch.

William Merritt Chase "A Modern Magdalen" 1888

One last thing to consider is how will the nude policies be judged, OnlyFans have said you can still post nude content but it just needs to meet their guidelines, so how far is too far, and how much is too much nudity many are asking as there needs to set in stone guidelines. Will you still be allowed to post feet pictures for cash, and also another factor, most of us knew that OnlyFans was not a stable career path, after all the income is not guaranteed, and the sex work industry has a fast turnover when it comes to women there is always someone ready to take your place, OnlyFans has become oversaturated. What will the women do who have to stop posting altogether now, it is much safer to do sex work from your phone than to meet strangers and engage in the acts in person.

UPDATE: Last Edited 29/08/21

OnlyFans has second thoughts on explicit content ban, it took five days for the ban to be overturned. A statement from OnlyFans "Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators."
